Announcement: Awarded United States Patent 7299408!

My first patent, in conjunction with Mark Oliphant, on an Electronic Mortgage Validation Engine (rules based)!

Filed: 01 December 2007

I am happy to announce that my first patent on the electronic mortgage validator has just been awarded by the USPTO!  Mark Oliphant of Fannie Mae contacted me to tell me the good news!

For details see: http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PTXT&s1=validator&OS=validator&RS=validator

It was awarded yesterday.  Interesting that the electronic mortage is the case study in my new book of the "canonical" information product!  For those interested, Fannie Mae is donating the intellectual property for this patent to the Mortgage Industry Standards Maintenance Organization (MISMO).  They are also the folks who adopted the other work I did for Fannie Mae (the electronic mortgage standard) as an industry standard for electronic mortgages (called SmartDocs).  See: http://www.mismo.org/SpecificationsAndGuidance/eMortgageSpecificatons.htm

Another interesting fact is that I was with the Fannie Mae team at a MISMO conference (in California) on 9/11.  We could not get a flight back so it took us 3 days to get back in a rented minivan.  I am proud to have worked with Mark and the rest of the Fannie Mae team on this important milestone.  Electronic mortgages are the best example of a real-world information product that implements "Information MVC"!  Upon completing the assignment, the Fannie Mae team presented me with the award pictured below:
